Whole home filtration

What a Whole Home Water Filter Does

A whole home water filter is installed where water enters your home. Every faucet, shower, washing machine, dishwasher and water heater receives filtered water, not only the kitchen sink.

Common reasons homeowners contact us:

  • Chlorine odor in the shower or at the tap
  • A chemical taste in the water
  • Skin and hair that feel dry after showering
  • Spots and film on shower glass, fixtures and dishes
  • A rotten egg odor from the hot water

How Our Three Stage System Works

Water passes through three stages of filtration media. Each stage targets a different problem.

Stage 1

Zeolite

A natural mineral (clinoptilolite), certified to NSF/ANSI 61. Conditions hard water to reduce scale buildup and reduces heavy metals.

Stage 2

Activated Carbon

Coconut shell activated carbon, certified to NSF/ANSI 61. Reduces chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the tastes and odors they cause.

Stage 3

Catalytic Carbon

Catalytic activated carbon, certified to NSF/ANSI 61. Reduces chloramine and hydrogen sulfide, the cause of rotten egg odor. Cities disinfect with either chlorine or chloramine. Your free water test shows which one is in your water.

All media is housed in NSF/ANSI 42, 61 and 372 certified housings.

What a Whole Home Filter Does Not Do

Some water problems need a different system. Your water test shows whether you need any of these.

Soft Water

Zeolite conditions hard water, but it is not a water softener. For high hardness, add a water softener.

Bottled Drinking Water

For the highest reduction of PFAS, fluoride and dissolved solids at the kitchen sink, add an under sink reverse osmosis system.

Bacteria

The base system does not disinfect water. A UV light add on does.

Sand, Silt and Rust

A sediment filter add on removes them before they reach the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a whole home water filter the same as a water softener?

No. A filter reduces contaminants such as chlorine, chloramine and chemicals. A softener removes the calcium and magnesium that cause hard water and scale. Many DFW homes benefit from both. See water softener installation.

Will a whole home filter lower my water pressure?

Each system is sized to the home, so normal use keeps strong pressure. Running many fixtures and an outdoor hose at the same time can cause a small drop. Larger homes receive a higher flow configuration.

How often is the filter media replaced?

We inspect the media at your annual quality check and replace it only when it is spent.

Do I still need a drinking water filter?

The whole home system reduces chlorine, chloramine, taste and odor at every tap. For bottled quality drinking and cooking water, add an under sink reverse osmosis system.

How long does installation take?

Installation typically takes 3 to 6 hours. A bypass valve is included so the system can be serviced without shutting off your water.

Where is the system installed?

Usually in the garage or outside, near where the main water line enters the home.

What does the free water test measure?

Chlorine, hardness, pH, iron, copper, alkalinity and more, measured on site with a lab grade tester. You see the results before any recommendation is made.

How much does a whole home water filter cost?

Pricing and bundles are listed on our Products page. Financing options are available.

Is the warranty really lifetime?

Yes. Every system includes a 100% fully backed lifetime warranty, as long as annual maintenance is kept up.
